RPMI Mobility & Conference Support Grants 2026

The Research Platform Medical Imaging (RPMI) provides financial support for early-career researchers to participate in scientific conferences, workshops, and summer/winter schools.

Up to six mobility grants per year are awarded (three per application period).

Program Objective

The program supports participation in:

• Summer and winter schools

• Scientific workshops

• Scientific conferences (oral or poster presentations), including virtual conferences

Type of Support

Funding covers:

• Travel expenses (economy class flights, second class train travel)

• Accommodation (medium-class hotel)

• Registration fees

The supported activity must take place within the current calendar year and:

• No more than six months before the application deadline, or

• No more than three months after the application deadline.

Daily allowances are not covered.

Target Group

• PhD candidates

• Junior postdoctoral researchers (within the first two years after graduation at the time of application)

Applicants must demonstrate that no sufficient alternative funding options are available.

Eligibility Criteria

Applicants are eligible if they:

• Are associate members of the RPMI

• Hold a valid employment contract with the Medical University of Vienna

• Are not receiving any scholarship or grant covering the same expenses

• Are not receiving funding from their clinic, institute, or centre

Double funding is not permitted.

Funding Amount

Up to EUR 1,000 per applicant.

Reimbursement Procedure

Reimbursement is only possible upon submission of:

• Original receipts

• Official confirmation of attendance

Advance reimbursement is not possible.

Applicants must remain employed at the Medical University of Vienna for at least three months after the funding confirmation or the conference (whichever occurs later) to enable reimbursement.

• Statement (max. 1,000 words) explaining how participation contributes to the doctoral project or postdoctoral career

• Submitted abstract (if applicable)

• Invitation or confirmation of registration

• CV (1 page)

• Breakdown of estimated travel costs (excluding daily allowances)

Application Deadlines 2026

Important Notes

• Only complete applications submitted within the deadline will be considered.

• The evaluation process takes approximately two weeks.

• The applicant must be employed at MUW for at least three months after receiving confirmation of funding or the conference (whichever comes last) in order to enable the reimbursement procedure.

Please note that in case of a rejection, we cannot elaborate on the reasons for the decision.
